Education Support Workers (Learning Support, Disability Support) BLUE12245 Part time, temporary, term time only opportunities

Blackpool

Salary £15,263 - £18,420 pro rata

Our client is recognised as an Ofsted Outstanding provider, following inspection in October 2013. Ofsted rated the Overall effectiveness of their provision, along with Outcomes for learners, Quality of teaching, learning and assessment and Effectiveness of leadership and management as Outstanding. In addition, the Quality Assurance Agency, which independently reports on the quality and standards of degree provision, awarded the College more commendations than any other university or Higher Education establishment in the UK to date when it published its report in July 2013.

They are now looking to recruit Education Support Workers on a temporary, ongoing basis. Hours offered may be variable to suit the needs of the students and would be during term time only.

As Education Support Worker, you will work as part of a cross-College team of people supporting students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities to achieve autonomy and a positive self-image grounded in being able to operate as independently as possible, contribute to their environment and achieve success on their courses.

You will negotiate attainable targets and timescales with students which relate to success in College and regularly review and record progress towards these and will work with tutors to enable them to develop coherent, cohesive strategies for the management of the student’s whole development whilst on a course.

You will also support students in out-of-class activities through such activities or assistance with mobility, toileting, obtaining food and drink, handling money, feeding, personal self-management skills and the development of appropriate communication skills (sometimes interpreting).

In addition, you will work in the classroom with students on such activities as note taking, copying, student directed writing, acting on communication support with teachers and others, assisting with manual tasks, working with assistive technology and generally keeping students focused and on task.

Successful candidates will have a good level of general education (English & Maths at GCSE Grade C or above or equivalent qualification i.e. Key/functional skills) and will ideally have some relevant experience of working with people with disabilities in a statutory or voluntary situation, although this is not essential.

You must be able to demonstrate the ability to write reports, be able to record incidents/experiences in a logical manner which identifies the main issues and to understand some of the main problems faced by students with disabilities.
