Job Title: Trainee Prison Custody OfficerLocation: HMP Lowdham GrangeHours: 40 per week, moving onto a shift pattern once training is complete

We are currently recruiting for Trainee Prisoner Custody Officers (PCOs), at our Category B, adult male prison situated in Lowdham, Nottinghamshire.
Your role as a Prisoner Custody Officer (PCO) is to provide a safe and secure environment for prisoners committed into custody by the courts. A PCO supervises and manages the activities of prisoners. PCOs promote pro social behaviour, encourage prisoners to address their offending behaviour and ensure that all rules orders and instructions are followed.
Duties:Full awareness of security which includes searching, writing security reports, use of radios, escorts & bedwatches as well as prisoner control and movements, and all other aspects of securityHave knowledge and awareness of substance abuseTo have an understanding about prisoners sentence planning targets including offending behaviour programmesTo work to the Home Office requirements of the Criminal Justice Act 1991 (2003)To ensure that your training remains current and in dateHave an understanding of the various departments within the prisonUnderstand the adjudication process and the paperwork to be completedCarry out roll counts effectively and accuratelyUnderstand the complaints procedure and the importance of valuing equalities according to local and national policyUnderstand the requirements of prisoners & your duty of care to them and be aware of mental health issues, suicide and self harm

Specific Requirements:If successful you will attend our comprehensive Home Office accredited training programme where you will gain the skills and confidence that will equip you to work safely in a secure establishment. You will also learn how to challenge offending behaviour and encourage prisoners to develop a positive role in society. Graduation from the 7 week- attendance based course is dependent on passing regular exams as well as the mandatory physical fitness test, First Aid and restraint techniques modules.Must have full Criminal Records Office and Home Office Clearance on completion of the course in order to graduate to PCOSerco Civil Government is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office
