Deputy Court Custody Manager

Serco`s Prisoner Escort and Custody Services (PECS) contract makes a critical contribution to the Criminal Justice System in England & Wales, by ensuring the safe, secure and decent transport of prisoners between courts and their associated prisons and police stations and the effective operation of court custody suites and associated docks.

We are currently recruiting for Deputy Court Custody Managers to deputise as required for the Court Custody Manager (CCM) to agreed performance objectives, focusing on prisoner welfare while complying with all security and operational procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

To create a positive working environment dealing effectively with issues and problems providing support and guidance to the team as appropriateTo meet agreed targets and objectives which will be measured allowing personal performance to be assessedPromoting themes of decency, courtesy and consideration when managing prisonersCarrying out people management activities as directed by the CCM but with direct responsibility to ensure staff are efficiently deployed within the court area and rotated to ensure flexibility within the workforce.o Hold sickness return to work interviews for the teams and 1st stage reviews in accordance with delegated authorities.Adhere to and assist in the development of Serco Health and Safety Policies and proceduresEnsure any service delivery issues are identified and bought to the attention of the CCM.Contribute to and changes initiatives in order to continuously improve servicesTo ensure that accurate data is captured on the SERS systemEnsure that the prisoners are dealt with in accordance with direction of the courtControl and manage warrantsEnsure prisoners are fed on timeEnsure visits are conducted.Represent Serco at Court User Group Meetings as Deputy if requiredMaintain own Knowledge of SOPs and other instructions to ensure efficient and effective running of the court and success during audit

Skills and Experience


Able to obtain Security Clearance as SC level (Serco Civil Government is exempt from the rehabilitation of Offender's Act 1974 and all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office).Strong communication skills including report writingComputer literateFlexible attitude with resilience as appropriate


Experience at supervising a teamExperience in the criminal justice environment


Working over a 6 day period (Monday to Saturdays)
