Category Manager (Utilities)

Job title: Category Manager (Utilities)Salary: Up to £90,000 depending on experience + BenefitsLocation: LondonJob type: PermanentBENEFITS: Pension, Life Assurance, Healthcare including Travel Insurance, Critical Illness Insurance, 20 Days Holiday rising to 25 after five years' service.POSITION FUNCTION:Reporting directly to the Procurement Manager, the Category Manager (Utilities) will be responsible for all utility forecasting and purchasing. It is therefore essential that interested candidates possess demonstrable experience in these areas.Working with the Procurement and Contracts Manager and a third party energy broker, the Category Manager (Utilities) will ensure that energy is acquired in good time and in accordance with the defined energy procurement risk strategy and at best value. Working with the Efficiency and Capacity Engineer and the site operational teams, the Category Manager (Utilities) will provide accurate monthly reporting on all utility usage and forecasts.The Category Manager (Utilities) will produce weekly updates detailing the current energy position and summarising current market conditions and a monthly management report for senior management showing forecast use for the following 12 months and including a briefing of the markets and proposing timescales and quantities for the next purchase.MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:The Category Manager (Utilities) will:Work with specialist energy traders and the operations procurement team to ensure that procurement strategies provide best value for energy supplies;Undertake negotiation of utility supply contracts, including negotiation of conditions of contract;Maintain an awareness of energy market trends through liaison with suppliers, traders, energy regulators, special interest groups such as the Major Energy Users' Council and a range of market intelligence sources;Ensure contracts comply with financial regulations and EU directives;Provide validation and analysis of costs;Contribute to a range of reports to senior management team;Agree cost effective payment terms and methods with suppliers to reduce account management costs;Assist and advise Senior Management and be able to understand and respond to legislative, environmental and market changes;Liaise with Data Centre Managers to ensure that utility usage remains within forecasts;Liaise with Facilities Managers to provide support for utility efficiency projects and improvements;Advise Senior Management on emerging technologies and their potential benefits for the Company;Assist with other procurement categories as required from time to time.EXPERIENCE:The Category Manager (Utilities) MUST have:A proven Utility Trading and Procurement background Highly proficient Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint skillsExperience of delivering to deadlinesExcellent organisational skillsExcellent communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of internal and external personnel with confidence and authority.PERSON SPECIFICATION:The Category Manager (Utilities) MUST:Possess attention to detailBe analyticalBe contractually astuteBe a strong team player Possess excellent interpersonal skillsBe able to work independently Be keen to learnBe an excellent communicatorBe flexible and adaptable, self-motivated and a pro-active workerBe proactive in spotting opportunities for improvementPossess influencing and interpersonal awarenessBe able to plan and organise effectivelyInterested applicants will be expected to complete and return by email a simple application form to which CVs must be pasted.
