The work we do for national and local governments involves us in the most important areas of public service, including health, education, transport, science and defence.Serco are currently recruiting for a Casual Multi Skilled Worker to work at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital. The role will involve being available to work at short notice over earliest, lates and night shifts. The operation is a 24/7 facility and successful candidates will need to be prepared to work any shifts. The role of the the Casual Multi Skilled Worker is to provide a comprehensive portering, cleaning and logistics service, including the efficient, courteous and timely movement of patients and logistics within the hospital campus and locations.The Kent and Canterbury Hospital, Canterbury is an acute hospital with 287 beds (as of March 2012) providing a range of elective and emergency services including an innovative Emergency Care Centre (ECC). The hospital is located on the outskirts of the City of Canterbury. The site has seen significant investment in recent years including the provision of a new day surgery unit, a new endoscopy suite, a state of the art Child Ambulatory Day Centre and most renal dialysis facilities and modern vascular and interventional radiology facilities.Duties and responsibilities

Movement of patients by bed, trolley or wheelchair within time periods specified in priority listing Movement of deceased bodies to the mortuary ensuring that all movements within the mortuary are recorded and that procedures have been followedMovement of patient equipment, pharmacy stores, medial gases, medical records and furniture as directed and authorised by SercoMovement of Pathology samples, bloods and specimens in compliance with EKHUFT procedures and protocolsAssist in the collection and management, including cleaning of wheelchairs to ensure the even allocation of wheelchairs to designated collection points.Sort, deliver and collect internal post ensuring external delivery timeframes are adhered toCollection of waste by use of electric vehicles or wheeled bins around the site as stated in the Service Level Specification Receipt, sort, store and prepare for collection all types of waste to ensure the efficient disposal as specified in Company policiesReport machinery faults including pre-shift inspection of electric vehicles or Health and Safety hazards to supervisor for action and resolutionEnsure that high personal hygiene and infection control standards are maintained in relation to personal tasks.Flexibility is required to cover other members of the team, which includes and not limited to portering, domestic services, reception & dispatch.
