XML Developer requiredCompany:My clients are one of UK's Largest Publishers with more then 9,000 titles a year for a wide range of clients. Job Description: The XML Software Developer role is part of an XML Team consisting of software development professionals focused on XML, XSLT and related technologies. Working within the Technology Solution Group, the role holder will work closely with other members of the Development Team and Project Managers to deliver XML based solutions. The role holder has expertise in XML, XSLT and related technologies, and proactively researches new technologies in order to identify skills, software, and best practice for the team.With a solid software development background, the role holder is able to design and build robust and scalable applications that meet client requirements.Responsibilities include:-Content Analysis.-Design of XML schemas.-XSL transformations, including XSL-FO.-XPath and XQuery expressions.-Providing third-line support to existing systems.-Peer review of other team members code.The role holder is a self-starter and able to manage their own time.Key Competencies-Technologist who is experienced and knowledgeable about XML technologies and who proactively keeps abreast of developments in this area.-Supports work with relevant business owners to translate complex requirements into specific products/deliverables.-Writes structured well-documented code to deliver scalable software solutions.-Designs and documents scalable software solutions.-Competent problem solver and quickly identifies and finds ways of overcoming obstacles and barriers.-Team player and able to contribute to effective working of multi-site 'matrixed in' project teams and resources.-Focused on delivering objectives.-Structured and methodical approach-Able to write clear and concise documentation for technical and non-technical audiences.-Ability to mentor more junior members of staff.-Ensures areas for componentization and reuse are highlightedKey TechnologiesExperience in some of the following technologies is required:-Content analysis / design of XML schemas-XSLT1 and XSLT2-XQuery-EPUB2 and EPUB3-XPath-Knowledge of markup languages such as Docbook and DITA-Microsoft Open Office XML and WordML-XSL-FO, Apache FOP and XEP-XHTML-DTDsExperience in the following technologies is desirable:-MarkLogic knowledge-Schematron-XML Pipelines, especially with Orbeon -XML applications such as Oxygen, XMetal and Arbortext Editor-RDF / Ontologies / Semantic web-JavaScript-HTML5 / CSS3-Web standards-Accessibility standardsQualifications and ExperienceExperience in some of the following areas is required:-Educated to degree level of higher in Computer Science or a related technology field.-Publishing and/or Web content management.-Single-source publishing background.-Large scale/complex content transformations.-Experience of the software development lifecycle and agile development methodologies.-Experience building high traffic web based APIs and RESTful web services.-Experience of a software development role following an Agile methodology.-Typographical knowledge.-Commercial web development experience.-Experience of providing client facing support is an advantage.If you would like to apply for this fantastic opportunity please send your CV or alternatively call me on 0207 634 0232.
