Audit Manager

BDO Northern Ireland has a 25 year presence in Northern Ireland and due to continuing growth there is a need for Audit Managers to join their practice.

The aim of the Audit/Assurance Department is to provide peace of mind to our clients. We offer accounting solutions through our skills and experience. We are committed to providing a consistent audit service to our clients through the use of quality auditing tools and methodology. The primary responsibility of the Audit Manager will be to deal with all matters relating to the management and portfolio of clients. You will also provide assistance to Partners & Directors in both client work and in the management of the Audit department and the wider Firm.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES /RESPONSIBILITIES• Responsibility for planning and managing assignments allotted to you for compliance with all technical requirements including conducting technical reviews and raising any issues of which Partners need to be aware.• Completing assignments within agreed budgets and time scales and identify opportunities for additional billings• Reviewing and approving for partner’s signatures all financial statements, opinions and reports or other deliverable documents for clients.• Building and maintaining strong client relationships with clients at senior levels, including developing a strong commercial understanding of their business• Support Partners and Senior Managers in the development of new business relationships and business proposals through high level sales and marketing activity• Support partners with the implementation and communication of any new business strategy for existing clients, target clients and internal business• Recruit, retain, develop and motivate our employees, which includes participating in graduate recruitment, ensuring job appraisal documentation is completed within deadlines and ensuring appropriate objectives and development plans are in place• Encourage an open exchange of ideas and opinions within your team and ensure that there is a constant flow of information.• Supervise, coach and develop junior members of staff within teams, on client premises and in the office• Act as an ambassador of the Firm, participates in office marketing events, keeps abreast of the wide range of service the Firm offers.• Ensure the Firms risk management and quality control procedures are adhered to at all times• Any other duties as may reasonably be requiredESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS• Membership of Chartered Accountants Ireland, or equivalent• Degree qualified with a minimum of a 2:1 OR 2:2 degree classification combined with Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Accounting• Working knowledge of: UK GAAP, IFRS, International Auditing Standards, & Financial Reporting Standards• Demonstrate a track record of outstanding performance/consistent delivery of KPI’s• Experience in leading complex audits• Experience in managing a client portfolio of at least 20 clients• Experience of systems and/or controls testing as well as substantive auditing, including consolidations, group audits, statutory accounts and disclosures.• Working knowledge of financial products• Commitment to continuous improvement & personal development• Excellent written and verbal communication skills• Excellent attention to detail• Project Management & organisational skills• Proven people management capabilityDESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS• Working knowledge of: US GAAP• Previous experience of Solicitors Account Regulations and Charities SORP Accounting• Experience in using APT software
