Distribution Centre General Manager
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and ambitious Distribution Centre General Manager to join the senior management team of a successful and well-resourced entrepreneurial business with a strong UK brand and a rapidly growing international presence.
This industrial product distribution business has built an enviable reputation for the quality of its product, superior levels of customer service and technical expertise. Growth in volumes and a late order cut off time for “next day delivery” business model makes for a very fast-paced and fast-changing environment. As result, a new leader is sought to take responsibility for this part of the organisation and to develop the infrastructure, people and processes on which its future successful growth depends.
In fulfilling his/her role, the Distribution Centre General Manager will work mostly from the Distribution Centre which is based in South Yorkshire and will work closely with the Managing Director, Finance Director and Commercial Director based in the London Head Office. He/she will be supported by a Logistics General Manager, a Head of Operations and Operations Managers also based in the distribution centre and reporting to him/her. He/she will enjoy the full support of the QA department.
Key areas of responsibility include:
-The provision of leadership for the entire site 24/7. Engagement of staff is key and requires ongoing communication (including regular staff presentations), training, promoting and retaining talent
-Taking ownership of the entire order fulfilment process, which is expected to be both efficient and effective
-Driving workplace productivity using modern management techniques, statistical analysis, resource planning/allocations and old fashioned physical presence on the shop floor to drive productivity and discipline
-Continuous improvement of the distribution centre’s operations, systems and processes
-Negotiating with all service providers, including carriers and contractors
-Site maintenance, H&S and security
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

- Familiarity with the development, management & ownership of complex KPI's, budgets and productivity improvements.
- Strong commercial acumen, high performance and operational excellence background
The ideal candidate will be educated to Degree level, preferably a Masters Degree.
