Senior Care Officer

Job Title: Senior Care OfficerLocation: Birmingham, West MidlandsSalary: £16,000 per Annum

Main Scope of the Senior Care Officer Job:

•Responsible to the Line manager, for the day-to-day management of staff & the care & support of the residents•Follow the home’s operational policies, & the care practice standards to provide care within a warm & supportive atmosphere•Implement individual care plans so as to ensure the welfare of each individual resident Senior Care Officer - Duties:


•Act as a member of the residential management staff undertaking duties delegated by the Deputy & Registered Manager•Ensure that colleagues are fully informed of recent developments at handover•Comply with relevant legislation & council policies & procedures. To maintain standards of care & report to the Senior or Registered Manager on duty any breaches in professional practice•Comply with health & safety policies & to report any incidents, accidents, risks or hazards to the Deputy or Registered Manager immediately


•Ensure that the needs of each individual resident are met•Contribute to records regarding individual residents, to ensure clients confidentiality in record keeping, discussions concerning residents•Enable residents to live a full & active life, planning & arranging social & recreational activities within the home & in the local community, to contribute to the organising of holidays as appropriate, to offer residents the opportunity to live as normal a life as possible•Liaise with families, advocates, health services, educational workers, local authority social work team for People with Learning Disabilities as necessary, in relation to the needs of  individual residents•Undertake key workers responsibility for particular residents enabling them to maintain links with their families, friends & advocates


•Develop the communal life of the home, in order to create a stimulating environment for residents.•Maintain the fabric of the home & report damage to the senior member of  staff on duty. To encourage a caring attitude in the residents concerning the furnishings & equipment•Responsible for monies designated for particular purposes•Undertake practical tasks when such action will contribute to the social care of the residents.•Carry out sleeping in duties as required on rota


•Keep abreast of developments in social services practice & theory through supervision & participation in vocational training•Attend meetings as required by the Senior or Registered Manager as requested•Individually accountable for standards of professional practice•Emergency stand in for other staff in the home if the residents would otherwise be at risk or suffer harm•Undertake any other related duties commensurate with the general level of responsibility of the post

Education and Experience

• At least two years’ experience of working (paid or voluntary) with people with a learning disability   • Extensive experience of the management of staff members & shift leading• NVQ3 or equivalent in care (children/young people)
