HR Advisor

Permanent  for Technical Placements in Tamworth

HR Advisor required for a manufacturing / transport logistics / recycling group, based in the Birmingham / Tamworth area. Part of an international organisation, this very successful and growing company requires a Human Resources Officer / Advisor to support the Head of HR, to provide senior management, line managers and depot managers with guidance and advice in relation to all HR related matters ensuring legal compliance and ‘best practice’ at all times.

Person Specification:

The successful candidate ideally requires the following professional attributes;

Minimum 2/3 years HR experienceSound knowledge of Employment LawExperience in a multi-site operationRecruitment experienceFamiliarity with good HR practiceExperience in a production/manufacturing environmentCIPD qualified or part qualified

       And in respect of personal attributes, the following will be advantageous:

Good communication skillsGood IT SkillsAn assertive but empathetic style/approachAn ability and willingness to challenge as appropriateThe ability to react swiftly and professionally as needs determineFull clean driving licence

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

To ensure that all managers comply with established procedures in respect of discipline, grievance, absence and performance management.To investigate any instances of alleged misconduct and to make recommendations accordingly.To advise disciplining managers with regard to ‘outcomes’ ensuring compliance with employment law, consistency within the organisation and that fairness and equity is applied at all times.To provide administrative support in respect of all relevant correspondence in relation to any disciplinary/grievance (or similar) processes, recruitment processes including offer letters/contracts of employment etc, ‘long service’ correspondence and any other necessary HR related administration procedures.To support recruitment activity, source and liaise with agencies and assist management in the recruitment process as required.To ensure compliance with employment law at all times particularly ensuring that all managers operate in a way that does not put the business at risk of any claims to an Employment Tribunal – particularly in respect of Discrimination, Breach of Contract and Unfair Dismissal.To monitor employee absence and take appropriate action in conjunction with line management where absence levels or patterns are deemed to be unacceptable in relation to company policy and standards.In conjunction with line management, assess training needs and arrange for any required training to be undertaken where spend authorisation has been made.To guide line management in respect of statutory procedures such as those relating to Maternity Leave, paternity Leave, requests for parental leave, requests for flexible working, time off for public duties etc.To undertake any other duties/activities as required by the Managing Director and/or any member of the senior management team.

11. To provide a monthly HR report to the senior management team

12.  To review and update offer letters/contracts/policies etc as required.

13.  To develop a Graduate Training Programme in the UK, in conjunction with European operations, recruiting, monitoring and mentoring successful candidate(s)

Context of Role:

The position of HR Advisor is based in the Company Head Office in Tamworth, Staffordshire. It is a ‘stand-alone’ HR role although there is Group support and external professional support from Employment Lawyers.  There are 6 depots that the Company operates in the following locations;


Occasional travel to these locations will be required, governed by the needs of the business.

Additionally, the Company employs a full time Administrator who undertakes a variety of activities predominantly for the Managing Director and senior management team. This person is available to the HR Advisor to assist with administration duties.

The Company is a member of EEF and therefore has access to a designated Employment Lawyer and to an Advice Line, (8.30 – 5.15, Monday to Friday). EEF will also provide regular Employment Law updates and support the Advisor in all ways possible.

       Terms & Conditions of Employment:

Salary c£26k (some flexibility available for right candidate)25 days holiday plus 8 public holidays.
