Job Title: Detail Clerk

Location: HMP Thameside, East London

Working Hours: Full time, 35 Hours per week

Serco are currently looking to recruit a Detail Clerk to work at HMP Thameside in East London. The role of the Detail Clerk is to ensure there is to support the Detail Co-ordinator ensuring that there are sufficient staff to maintain safety within the prison and to staff bedwatches, overtime and emergency escorts.

The Detail Clerk Duties & Responsibilities:-

To accurately record daily sickness and report information to the Detail co-ordinator so the gaps may be filled where applicable. Recording sick hours on the necessary database.To assist the Detail Coordinator with the running of the Daily Detail of the establishment using the guidance of the staffing requirements - allocating staff fortnightly to ensure that all profiled tasks and activities are coverTo complete the data inputting of the rotas to the daily detail sheet fortnightly, and go through this with the Detail Coordinator every week to check the cover shifts and staff allocatedTo keep the C&R/Tornado database up-to-date, sending figures each month to the QA office, and liaise with the Detail Coordinator and C&R Coordinator when staff go out of dateTo cover bed watches and overtime when instructed to by the Detail Coordinator making sure you follow the overtime guidelinesTo answer telephone/email queries when necessaryProvide admin assistant to the Detail Coordinator on a daily basisUpdate toil balances when instructedCover all urgent queries/detail issues when the Detail Coordinator is on leave, and escalating any serious issues to the Senior Operations Manager

Skills and Attributes


Operational Experience or an understanding of operational requirements desirableAbility to work using own initiative as well as being a good team player


Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and ExcelExcellent organisational skillsHave a common sense approach with the capacity to make reasonable decisions and lead by exampleAble to cope under pressureTeam worker, with ability to work alone.Numerate, literate, IT literate.Co-operative with a willingness to help others achieve their goals.Motivated and actively promote diversity and challenge discriminatory behaviour.Strong interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to liaise and negotiate at all levelsHave a common sense approach with the capacity to make reasonable decisions and lead by example

Qualifications, Training and Experience


Good standard of educationMust be proficient in the use of key Microsoft Office applications.


Previous experience in a similar field an advantage although not essential as full training will be given.
