Software Team Lead - Aerospace

Permanent  for ERS in Cambridge

Software Team Lead – AerospaceCambridge £50,000 – £57,000 (depending on experience) plus Bonus

A long established and World leading successful defence engineering organisation are looking for a Software Team Lead with a background in Aerospace to join their team in Cambridge to work on the development of complex electronic engineering projects and the manufacture of safety critical aerospace equipment within the defence industry. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to lead, develop and support small/medium Software Design Development Teams in order that both projects and statutory requirements are met and to improve the effectiveness of the software design team functions within the company.

Your responsibilities will include:


* Supporting the Engineering Manager(Software Design) as required* Competently resolving technical problems associated with assigned products* Identifying training needs for software development teams engineers, sharing appropriate information and knowledge to enable others to grow* Liaising with the Programme Managers to take into account project contractual requirements.* Liaising with Engineering Manager ( Software Design) to arrange timely Software Development reviews and compliances* Accurately assessing key areas of vulnerability in the project software development and de-risking commercial outcome.* Ensure that subcontract activities are managed and reported effectively* Prepare reports for internal and external use as required* Prepare and deliver presentations as required* Ensure efficient administration of all aspect of assigned projects* Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures to ensure accreditation requirements are consistently met

Software Design /Development

* Supporting Engineering Manager (Software Design) as required* Working with the Engineering Manager (Software Design) to strive to continuously improve the processes and procedures* Responsible for assisting project leaders to deliver, attend project review meetings as required* Supporting the preparation and updating of project plans for assigned projects* Leading Software development teams to meet the project objectives and to ensure the necessary tools and equipment are available at the right time* Competently resolving technical problems associated with assigned products* Attending project change control board and making them aware of any prioritization of raised Trac tickets and any project risks* Ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures so as to consistently meet accreditation requirements* Ensuring the manufacturing costs for new products is defined and manages the engineering activity to ensure targets are met.* Monitoring work performed by the Software Development team to ensure that high technical standards are achieved within timescales and budget* Building and maintaining excellent internal and external customer relationships* Keeping up to date with new developments within the market place to ensure the company remains at the cutting edge* Be prepared to travel to support current and future products on customer sites around the world

Qualifications needed:

* Strong leadership, programme management skills, time management, and problem solving skills in aerospace software* Strong understanding and experience of the safety critical software development lifecycle (DO178) requirements* Competent with configuration control.* Extensive in depth experience of software design, development and testing in a safety critical environment * Ability to successfully lead and performance manage small/ medium size Software development team* Technically competent to assess and manage technical risk in their area and honestly presenting the detail and the wider impact* Sound analytical and problem solving skills by applying practical and economic solutions * Experience of liaising with internal and external customers* Able and willing to participate and organise product investigations resulting from aircraft incidents* Competent in the Standards and Technical Management of Software development teams for Safety Critical Development (to DO 178B Level A


* Familiarity with Electronic systems* Familiarity with system design practice
