Research Director; User Research, UX, Ethnographic Research

We employ a multitude of methodologies in our research, from ethnographic research in call centres or people`s homes, to user testing new concepts or video games with children in our custom built labs.Due to our continued success we have an opening for a Research Director in our London office. We are looking for someone with extensive and relevant consultancy experience, with expertise in a range of user research activities (including usability testing, methods, user needs gathering, ethnographic research, research and concept development and leading client engagements and commercial proposals as well as traditional lab-based usability testing). We are a small team with growth on the agenda, so we need specialists with Business Development experience in this sector who are comfortable and willing to work in a variety of sectors, propose commercial solutions and deploy and oversee specialist methods to meet high end client needs and to operate with very senior stakeholders and budget holders. We need someone with enough experience to know which methods work best to address a client`s needs and to then commercially shape and close the deals. Ideally, we are interested in finding someone with experience in commercial and consumer-based Usability and ethnographic research, as well as other qualitative user research methods. We need someone who is comfortable and willing to lead a usability team and oversee contextual and new research projects. The person would be a technical SME and a mentor and coach as well as someone who is open to sharing their knowledge and experience with the team.

The Research Director will have a sales and BD target and so will be required to undertake and lead business development and account management as part of their responsibilities

The successful applicant will have: -Extensive relevant experience in leading user research activities (including one or more of ethnographic research, user needs gathering, concept development, customer journey mapping and usability testing), conducted in a commercial setting -Experience of working directly and leading with clients -Led a mixture of methodologies, and exploring news ways of developing user experience research -Strong facilitation skills with senior stakeholders (for client meetings, workshops and user sessions) -Have a track record in business development and account management -Excellent analysis and written/oral communication skills -A keen interest in Ux and new innovations and technology -Proven understanding and experience of different business sectors -At least a Masters level education in a relevant field, or equivalent experience -Project and team management and leadership expertise -Eligibility to work in the UK -An outgoing and confident personality -Openness to travel
