As one of the largest and most successful further education colleges in Europe, our client provides education and training to a wide range of learners and clients across the City of Manchester and beyond.

The Learner Support team are now looking for part time sessional Communication Support Workers to provide exceptional communication support and interpreting for d/Deaf students.

The role of Communication Support Worker is vital in interpreting between English and BSL for D/deaf students in classes, tutorials and meetings. You’ll be assisting the students with enrolling at the college, inductions for work placements and at students’ review meetings. As part of their studies, you’ll be required to translate complex written passages to BSL and BSL to written or spoken English for presentations or video assignments. You’ll need an organised approach as you’ll also need to maintain student records with all work undertaken.

The successful Communication Support Worker must be educated to at least NVQ Level 3 in British Sign Language and have excellent oral and written English skills. With an approachable, friendly manner, you will need the ability to build good working relationships with students and tutors alike and have the initiative to familiarise yourself with specialised BSL vocabulary or subjects relevant to the lessons. A BSL skills assessment will be part of the interview process.
