Forth Valley Royal Hospital has 860 In-patient and Day Care spaces and was built on the site of the former Royal Scottish National Hospital in Larbert.
An opportunity has arisen within the Estates Department for Serco at Forth Valley Royal Hospital as an Engineering Services Shift Technician. The post holder will provide maintenance services for a wide range of equipment across the site. The department operates a 24 hour 365 days a year service to the hospital.
Main responsibilities:To provide responsive day to day maintenance services for all buildings services, plant, equipment pest control and grounds in accordance with agreed customer services and quality standardsResponsible for the continuity of life critical mechanical and electrical services systems and supplies throughout the hospital.To actively participate in the operation of engineering planned preventative maintenance schemes.At all times to carry Hospital communication devices (Pagers and Two-way radios/phones) to facilitate immediate response to emergencies as part of the Emergency Response Team.To be prepared to work in potentially hazardous areas taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment.Will supervise contractors and carry review contractors risk assessments for activities under your control and accept responsibility for issue of safe working permitsUndertake essential repair works, planned preventative maintenance, calibration and fault diagnostics at the request of Maintenance Officers.To liaise with Maintenance Officer regarding plant or equipment failures and to request the supply of goods and/or services as necessary..Use handheld electronic technology to provide feedback of information required by the Computer Aided Facilities Management system (CAFM) to assist the estates department in carrying out its dutiesUndertakes electrical testing and monitors results to ensure compliance with the latest edition of the Wiring Regulations BS7671. Requesting remedial works or emergency isolations as and when required.Undertakes inspection and commissioning tests for the installation and issues the appropriate completion certificates.Be conversant with and understand the complete working of the mechanical, electrical and electronic systems in N.H.S building particularly as they relate to this unit i.e. sterilisation, lifts, refrigeration, boiler plant and steam utilisation, air conditioning fire alarm systems, computer systems, control theory, practical and applicationUndertake any other duties appropriate up to the grade of this post.Carry out mechanical or electrical isolation of plant and equipment to make safe and enable the safe performance of works by self and others.
Knowledge and Understanding:Completed a recognised apprenticeship in engineering or electrical crafts or equivalent.BTEC / HNC in engineering services or equivalent or five years experience as engineering technicianExperience in a similar role within a large complex service organisation.Undertake comprehensive training in a combination of the following specialist systems - AGV / CCTV-Access control / Lifts / Fire Systems / Pneumatic Tube / Medical Gases / BMS / Water Filtration / Control of Legionella / Renal Dialysis / Cat 3 Laboratories / Aseptic Suite.Understanding of customer care and experience of managing the client relationship, preferably including time within a Healthcare environment.
