Prison Custody Officer

Opened in 2001, Serco manage HMP Dovegate on a 25 year contract as a category B prison. We care for over 1060 male adult prisoners over the age of 21 all serving a range of sentences including trial, remand, awaiting sentence and convicted men serving over four years to life.
A vacancy has arisen at HMP Dovegate for Prison Custody Officers.The purpose of the role will be to supervise prisoners in all aspects of wing based activity in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Prison Service Orders. You will report to Supervisor/Manager any issues that may undermine security and the safe environment for staff, visitors and prisoners.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:Consistent satisfactory performance of all aspects of this post is an absolute requirement.Work to prescribed systems as laid out in Standard Operating Procedures & Prison Service Orders. (Policies & Procedures) Ensure that work and tasks are carried out on time when required.Enter effective and accurate reports in documents as required in Standard Operating Procedures.Be fully conversant in: Security; Escorting & Prisoner Bedwatches; Control & Restraint Techniques; Cleanliness and Hygiene; Key Officer Scheme Incentives and Earned Privileges; Anti-Bullying Scheme; Suicide Prevention; Self-Harm Prevention; The daily regime/routine; First AidConduct self-audits in accordance with Prison Service Standards and base lines. Report any discrepancies to Supervisor/Manager.Escort/supervise movement of prisoners in accordance with current policies and in a safe, secure and timely manner.Report any matters or occurrences that are untoward or that deviate from the regime to Supervisor/Manager.Maintenance of security in residential areas. (Cell Searches/Other Area Searches)Maintenance of Health & Safety in residential areas and cleanliness and hygieneContractual compliance in all activities within residential areas.Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures in residential areas.Adherence to the Information Security PolicyExcellent communication/interpersonal skills, ability to communicate at all levels.Have a common sense approach with the capacity to make reasonable decisions and lead by example

Qualifications, Training and ExperiencesMinimum Good standard of education, ability to pass Level 2 Literacy/Numeracy testMust be proficient in the use key MS Office applications.Previous experience in a similar field an advantage although not essential as full training will be given.Awareness of Standard Operating Procedures and Prison Service Orders.
