Chief Mate (Tug)
Serco Marine Services deliver marine support packages tailored to our customers` needs, all delivered within a national accreditation framework. As owners and operators of specialist vessels, from harbour work boats to ocean going support vessels, we provide world class integrated marine services both in the UK and abroad. We enable the Royal Navy to move in and out of port at HM Naval Bases Faslane, Portsmouth and Devonport for operational deployment and training exercises. Managing a fleet of over 100 vessels, we operate tugs and pilot boats, provide stores, liquid and munitions transportation and provide passenger transfer services to and from ships for officers and crew.
We currently have an opening at HMNB Clyde for a Chief Mate (tug). You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day working of the Deck Department, including towage operations and maintaining a high standard of upkeep and appearance.
Key duties: - As a Watchkeeping Officer of the vessel, he/she is in control of the vessel, and shall follow all Company Procedures on navigation and observe International Regulations. Where there is only the Master and Chief Officer he/she shall assume the duties of the 2nd and 3rd Officers. - Unless required otherwise by the Master, and in addition to their navigational duties, to be responsible for deck fabric maintenance, the organisation and supervision of the deck department, for discipline of its members and the duties enumerated here. - In consultation with the Master, being responsible for the planning and execution of all towage,cargo and ballast operations, ensuring that the vessel has sufficient intact stability - Be responsible for all safety equipment onboard and supervise the conduct of maintenance. - Maintains and controls ISM/SMS, MARPOL and other legislation to make sure the vessel is in compliance and ready for inspections at all times & ensuring that safe systems of work are being adopted and implemented by all personnel while onboard. - Reporting of hazardous situations, accidents or other non conformities to Master or the Designated Person; - Taking an active interest in the overall operation of the Vessel so as to maintain skills in that area and be able to effectively relieve the Master when so required. - Managing the ordering, rotation and control of paint stocks, deck stores and consumables - Provide a support to operational management as required
Qualifications: Essential - Hold a minimum of, Watch-keeper (Inshore Tug) -Reg 11/3 (Tug less than 500grt, limited to 30 miles from Safe Haven, or Equivalent Certificate of competency. - Hold valid unrestricted ENG1 - Competent Ship handler
Desirable - Experience of serving as Master/Chief Officer on Towage vessels - Previous experience operating under a company safety management system - Familiarity with the supervision and implementation of AMOS systems onboard. - Participation in bespoke ASD/ATD Tug Handling training, Seaways or other.
