Instrumentation and Controls Engineer

Permanent  for Support Services Group in Northampton

This true market leading organisation, an independent specialist engineering company with a global reputation for high quality solutions, known for innovation and due to continued success is looking to recruit an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer. This role will be predominately involved with project engineering control solutions fitted to bespoke high value products.THE ROLE:* Identify and procure data acquisition and Instrumentation systems* Design and program plc control systems* Ensure that engineering designs meet current regional legislation including 17th edition, Machinery Directive and ATEX* Define P&ID systems and wiring diagrams for CAD and define parts for procurement * Specify custom designed instrumentation electronics to suppliers* Commission and test equipment both in-house and at the customer’s site.* Work within project budgets and timescales* Identification of technical challenges and innovative solutions within a project.* Maintain project documentation in accordance with company QA system to a high standard for the duration of a project.* Participate in project meetings / design reviews in an organised and objective manner * Support Production during the manufacturing phases of projects.* Provide input and support to Development projectsThe Person* Qualified to HND level or higher in Electrical, Electronic or Instrumentation Engineering.* Experience in industrial instrumentation design, including monitoring and control .* Good IT skills with an understanding of network communications, particularly for instrumentation.* Experience with CAD packages * Experience of PLCs* Understand functionality of circuit designs at PC board level* Ability to provide an innovative approach to problem solving.* Organised and motivated with high levels of personal ownership.* The ability to work with high levels of attention to detail and accuracy* Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Note that a requirement of this position is the need to spend time at the customer’s site, which could extend to several weeks, during periods of site installation, commissioning and training and will require international travel.The salary for the position will be in the range of £30 to 40K per annum plus an attractive benefits package inlcuding pension, performance / profit share bonus, life assurance, etc.
